Capt. Abraham Hermanus De Vries

Commandant

Captain de Vries brings with him a wealth of experience and competence in seafaring, command and education & training.

During his 30-year naval career he served as Commanding Officer onboard variety of ships. He also served ashore in human resource development appointments. During the transformation process in the Ministry for Defense, he performed a leading role in the Education, Training and Development Workgroup.

He served as the Director Naval Training at South African Naval Headquarters from 1995 and retired in 2001. Since then he concentrated on the full spectrum of training systems and its design, development, delivery and evaluation as a business entrepreneur.

Herman holds a Masters Degree in Maritime Science from the Naval War Academy, Chile; a certificate in Defence Management from the University of the Witwatersrand; and a National Certificate in Education Training and Development. He is a level 5 educational practitioner within the National Qualifications Framework of South Africa.

He was appointed as the Commandant of EMTI S.C. Maritime Academy at the University of Bahir Dar in January 2014.



Mr. Rajiv Sarin

Mechanical Engineering (OOEW), Department Head

Mr. Rajiv Sarin serves as the Department Head and Coordinator of the Officer In-Charge of an Engineering Watch (OOEW) Course at the Ethiopian Maritime Training Institute (EMTI). Mr. Sarin is a marine Chief Engineer with more than two decades of sailing experience on merchant ships. During his sailing career, Mr. Sarin worked as a Chief Engineer for more than 11 years, mainly with M/S Larsen & Toubro. He also served as Engineer Superintendent for more than 4 years for a fleet of geared Panamaxes. Prior to joining EMTI, Mr. Sarin worked as a senior instructor at Applied Research International (ARI) in New Delhi. He is a graduate of the Marine Engineering and Research Institute in Kolkata, India.



Mr. DE Dhansingh

ETO, Department Head

Mr. DE Dhansingh serves as the Department Head and Coordinator of the Electro Technical Officers (ETO) Course at the Ethiopian Maritime Training Institute (EMTI). He is a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers (India) and is certified as a Chartered Electrical Engineer by the same Institution. Mr. Dhansingh has undergone 4 years of training as an Electrical Artificer in the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Training Institutes of the Indian Navy from 1953-1957 and served on board warships for 10 years. He has more than 50 years of experience in managerial capacities in the areas of operation, maintenance, design, installation and training in the field of Electrical Engineering. Prior to joining EMTI, Mr. Dhansingh served as a visiting faculty member at various maritime academies throughout India.
